How long have you been Coaching?
Since I was born in 1974 to two teenagers who needed a Life Coach but didn’t want to pay for it so they created one.  And more formally, for six years.

How did you get into Coaching? When I was in third grade I had a moment, one of those somewhat frightening intuitive moments where you look around to see who else saw the ghost that just walked by in overalls, only to realize you were the only one.

I didn’t see a ghost but I did have a flash of words in my ear and the message was, “You will help people.”  So I do. (smile)

I was following a more traditional psychology route until a co-worker said, “You should be a Life Coach.”  And that fit, so I am.   (read the full version of this story here.)

What is the best part? I’m not going to say, “watching people’s lives change” because that’s typical and expected- and maybe not even true.  The best part for me is that look in a person’s eyes that happens when they just got it that they are in charge.  Maybe it’s a situation, maybe it’s in general, but they see what is possible.  From there, they can do or be anything!

Who are the people who tend to benefit the most from working with you? Creative doers, creative thinkers.  People who want to move beyond what society teaches us is possible, is “right”, or is safe.  People who want to be themselves, even if it’s scary or uncomfortable.

It’s primarily about attitude- I don’t care where a person stands on the totem pole of their potential, if they are willing and open to new perspectives, we can go anywhere.

Are there people you don’t work with? The extremely hopeless and unwilling are going to benefit more with someone else.

What’s your style? Modern vintage.  That’s not what you’re asking.

Let’s face it, I’m a goofball but I take people’s process, goals and lives very seriously.  This is important, our lives are important.  How we live our lives and the decisions we make effect everything.  I am incredibly compassionate and non-judgmental, and I truly care about people.  But I’m taking their patterns DOWN! (hand points to the ground) Did I mention I love to wrestle?

What do you like to do, when you’re not wrestling? I love learning about the brain, coloring, dreaming, playing backgammon, drinking iced tea, spending time with people, having conversations, chance meetings, being out in the world, color combining, interior design, creating collages, organizing, thinking of new ideas and taking actions so they happen.

Why you? What is someone getting in you that is unique? My clients have often referred to me as a “hybrid”.  I’m part listener and facilitator of feelings and part coach and strategist.

I have over twelve years of training and leadership in peer counseling so I can go “there” with you.  However, the coach in me challenges you to shift your behaviors in present time, holds you accountable, and encourages you to take responsibility.  Personally, I love the balance of the two.  It allows us to flow with where you are.
