My life growing up was fairly serious, unless I was with my friends. My parents were teenagers when I was born and when I was a teen, it was not uncommon for strangers to struggle to figure out who was older- me or my mom. That applied to emotional age too.
It took some years of doing my own work to learn to connect with the playful side of myself- but it was worth it! It’s like a big “Welcome Home” mat that resides inside. It turns out, I am gifted at seeing the humor and joy in the little things. If my life were a Reality Show, it would resemble a comedic musical with a hint of Tasmanian devil.
A great day (assuming I don’t move to the mountains or live on the beach) looks something like: big kisses from my kids and my husband, a yummy and healthy breakfast, time to myself to think, process, plan, and work while drinking iced tea and sitting outside at my favorite coffee shop- the wind blows on my face and the sun peeks through. I spend an hour with friends laughing, talking, and inspiring one another to go for the next step. I work with clients to empower their lives and move past their hurts, while learning something new myself along the way. I play with my kids and have a meaningful talk with my husband. I drink more iced tea and study something new. I daydream of all the possibilities in life. If it’s a Saturday, I aimlessly walk around the Farmer’s Market- touching and smelling- asking strangers questions about their lives and how they got where they are. There would be plenty more lolly-gagging sprinkled with hands-on hard work. More iced tea. I organize something. I take a risk. I exercise. And I end the day with a snuggle.
Oh and always the random questions from strangers, “Excuse me, what do you think about…., How do I look in…., Do you where I can find….”- happens all the time.
